Engaging the Public in Developing Innovative Solutions

162_6268The Mall faces serious challenges that require innovative and comprehensive solutions: improving resilience; connecting the Mall to the surrounding community; creating new space for future museums and modern mega-events such as the National Book Festival; flood control to protect the museums and cultural resources; improving visitor amenities and circulation; a comprehensive landscape restoration plan; improving the American story told on the Mall. These problems are not addressed in any comprehensive way by the Smithsonian, the National Park Service, and other Mall management entities who have only limited jurisdiction over Mall buildings and open spaces.

The National Mall Coalition has been working to fill this gap in long-range planning by engaging the public as well as government entities in brainstorming and proposing innovative solutions. Read more here.
